The Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota community never was in a reservation situation. They are remained a Dakota community despite

  1. Assimilation for two hundred years
  2. Fail to the ratification of the contract of 1841, which the valley of the Minnesota river to an Indian territory like e.g. Oklahoma would have made.
  3. Fail from land purchase of the US Government for the Mendota people and despite failure of acquisition four further regions entstandt in Minnesota this Dakota community.
