Lakota and Dakota Lives

The life of Black Elk is celebrated within and without Lakota society. Many other lives are woven into the rich tapestry of Lakota and Dakota culture, past and present.

Before and after Black Elk first spoke to John G. Neihardt, Lakota and Dakota men and women have shared the stories of their lives, and many of their books are included here. Together they show us the diversity of perspectives and remarkable range of experiences for Lakotas and Dakotas then and now.
