Der Stamm, welcher auf dieser Reservation lebt, sind: Sioux

Lage: Die Lower Brule Reservation befindet sich im mittleren Teil von Süddakota, 15 Meilen Südost von Pierre und 16 Meilen nördlich von Reliance.

Anzahl der Reservationbewohner: 1.095

Größe der Reservation: 225.970 acres
Größe des vom Stamm genutzten Landes: 109.943 acres
Größe des von Stammesmitgliedern individuell genutzten Landes: 25.137 acres
Größe des dem Stamm zugewiesenen Landes: 135.080 acres
Größe des Landes im Besitz von Nicht-Indianern: 90.890 acres

Herkunft: Die Lower Brule Sioux stammen von den Teton ab. Die Teton gehören zu den sieben Stammesverbänden der Lakota. Als die Teton in der Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts in das westliche Gebiet von Dakota einwanderten, teilten sie sich in sieben Stammesverbände. Einer dieser Stammesverbände waren die Brule.

Wie entstand die Reservation? Mit dem Fort Laramie Vertrag von 1868 wurden die Grenzen der Großen Sioux Nation Reservation festgelegt. Acht Jahre später nahm sich die US-Regierung Teile des Landes, als Gold in den Black Hills entdeckt wurde.

Heutige Lebensbedingungen: Es gibt keine Industrie auf der Reservation. In der Nähe befinden sich auch keine Städte, wo die Indianer Arbeit finden könnten. Deshalb beträgt die Arbeitslosigkeit 70 %.
