July 1, 1971, I caught a large example of Percina phoxocephala in a shallow riffle about 1/4 mile below the mouth of Webber Creek. Although I have taken P. nasuta in this riffle and upstream and downstream from this riffle, I have not caught P. phoxocephala in Lee Creek other than this one time nor do I know of other records for Lee Creek.
Moore and Paden (1) reported P. phoxocephala from their Illinois River station 1 (near Watts) and stations 6, 7, and 8 (near the mouth of the river) but at no intervening stations. I took one example of P. phoxocephala at Round Hollow State Park July 26, 1971, and two examples near the mouth of Black Fox Creek (but in the Illinois River) Aug. 5, 1971. Evidently, then, P. phoxocephala, although rare, is present in the intermediate and upper reaches of the Illinois River.
