At the 1989 annual meeting, two individuals received TenYear Service Awards for ten-or moreyears of service on the Executive Council of the Academy. Both have also been very much involved with the Proceedings.
Dr. Otis C. Dermer was President of the Academy in 1946 and has served as Associate Editor of the Proceedings since 1976; for at least seven years before that, he was a Section Editor. He was also an associate editor in the 1960s.
As is usual for Otis, he has served and continues to serve the Academy in numerous ways. Spot checks of committee lists in the 1950s and 1960s reveal his membership on (at least) these: auditing committee, constitutional revision committee, necrology committee.
Otis Dermer was born November 11, 1909, in Hoytville, Ohio. His B.S. in education and science was received from Bowling Green in 1930. In 1960, Bowling Green honored him with a D.Sc. He received the Ph.D. in chemistry from Ohio State University in 1934, working with Dr. W.C. Fernelius.
In 1934 he joined the Department of Chemistry at Oklahoma A&M as an instructor. His progression through the academic ranks was steady: assistant professor in 1935, associate professor in 1938, and professor in 1947. In 1949, Otis became Head of the Department and served in that position for twentytwo years. In 1972 he became Regents Service Professor and held that position until he "retired" in 1975. In retirement Otis has kept a busy, nearfulltime schedule and has been "drafted" to help with various research and writing projects.
Dermer has consulted for Cities Service Oil Company, Dow Chemical Company, Continental Oil Company, and John Wiley and Sons, Publishers. He has published about 70 journal articles, is coauthor of six books, and holds ten patents.
At a recent meeting of the Council of Biology Editors, just the mention of Otis' name brightened the eyes of the editors from Chemical Abstracts he corrects them. Otis is an expert in chemical nomenclature and chemical literature. The Proceedings and the Academy are blessed to have this worldclass editor and scientist improving our products.
Dr. Glenn W. Todd, President of the Academy in 1976, served as Editor of the Proceedings from 1979 to 1989. He was a section editor in 19721978 and served on the Academy's Executive Council in 19751989. Committee assignments for the Academy include: section chairperson, nominating, public relations, sciencegovernment liaison, longrange planning, and constitution and bylaws.
Glenn Todd was born September 30, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri. All of his degrees are from the University of MissouriColumbia: A.B. in 1949, M.A. in

1950, Ph.D. in 1952. He was a research fellow in biology at the California Institute of Technology, 195253, and from 1953 to 1958 was an assistant biochemist at the Citrus Experiment Station of the University of California at Riverside.
Glenn joined the faculty of Oklahoma State University in 1958 as an assistant professor; he was promoted to associate professor in 1962 and to professor in 1967. His, administrative service has been as Acting Director and then Director of the School of Biological Science, 197281, and as Head of the Department of Botany and Microbiology, 198290. He continues as Head of the Department of Botany.
Dr. Todd has received two Fulbright Awards: to Egypt in 196667 and to Russia in 1981. He has about 60 research publications.
Both of these descriptions represent "work in progress" because both Glenn and Otis actively continue their contributions to science and to the Academy.
