Carlisle
Indian Industrial School - while not exactly a "tribal college" as
they exist today, this is a home page devoted to the (in)famous Carlisle
Indian School (1879-1918) in Carlisle, PA. Indian kids from around the
country were
sent to this boarding school for years in an attempt to whitewash them.
This site also includes a student name index and a history and

Books -
Scholastic, a major publisher of children's books, recently released two
books about Native Americans in their best-selling "Dear America" series
of historical fiction diaries. The first, My Heart is On the Ground :
The Diary of Nannie Little Rose, by Ann Rinaldi, is set at Carlisle
Indian School in 1880. The second, The Girl Who Chased Away Sorrow :
The Diary of Sarah Nita, written by Ann Turner, takes place during the
Navajo Long Walk. Both are drawing fire for the serious factual errors and
cultural misrepresentations of these events. This web site has critical
reviews of the books written by Native educators. Added
