Chapter 3: Proofreading a Document

What is Proofreading?

Once we have OCR'd a document, we need to proofread, or proof for short. When we proof a document, we check each letter, number, word, punctuation mark, symbol and so forth to be sure it matches exactly with the corresponding character in the printed document.

Proofing a document requires concentration and patience to check each and every image, paragraph, sentence, word and so on to ensure they exactly match the same image, paragraph, sentence, word, and so forth in the printed document.

We strive for 99.95% accuracy with the printed document, so you should proof each document very carefully both during OCR'ing and during markup.
