Included are both recognized and unrecognized tribes.

NOTE: Many authentic American Indian Nations are refused recognition by the U.S. Federal Government & various State Governments.
The refusal of the U.S. or any State to acknowledge bonofied American Indian Nations does not nullify or lesson the legitimacy or reality of that Indian Nation or it's right to continued existence.

One of the major duties of this Embassy is to gain International Recognition from World Governments for those Indian Nations unrecognized by the U.S. or State Governments

Dick Shovel has begun compiling good general historical & cultural overviews of a couple of dozen tribes. Take a look at First Nations Histories - a good source for student papers! Dick also has a listing of tribes, both federally and state recognized, as well as those with no formal governmental recognition at all. Added 8/3/99; updated 5/15/00.
