Colorado Digitization Project Toolbox
An excellent collection of standards, administrative resources, technical resources, metadata resources, copyright & intellectual property resources, and funding resources. Also includes “Questions To Ask” before you begin a digitization project, a glossary of terms, and links to digitial imaging vendors. A great place to start.
Cornell University Library Tutorial
Cornell's excellent Moving Theory into Practice Digital Imaging Tutorial is available in English and Spanish.
Digital Library Federation Digital Library Documents
A wonderful “library catalogue” of online resources for digital librarians. The collection is composed of documents from members of the Digital Library Federation, including the Library of Congress, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, NARA, and the Universities of California (Berkeley), Chicago, Michigan, and Texas. A “Bookbag” tool allows you to select the records you want, and offers the options to download the records or to have them e-mailed to you.

The Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII), University of Glasgow, and the National Initiative for a Networked Cultural Heritage (NINCH) published this excellent manual, which includes sections on digitization of text, images, and multimedia materials, sustainability and preservation issues, and collaborating with others. One of the most comprehensive resources around.
National Library of Australia Digitisation Policy
A model digitization policy covering the mission and purpose of digitization projects, selection criteria, management issues, standards, and preservation.
OSU Library Electronic Publishing Center Training Manual
The manual prepared by EPC staff for training new employees in the digitization process. Includes sections on scanning, OCR, and text mark-up.
Oxford Text Archive Guides to Good Practice
Oxford University’s digitization center, the Oxford Text Archive, has begun a series of guides to best practices in digitization. The first installment, Creating & Documenting Electronic Texts is now available. Other OTA publications, including future installments in the Guides to Good Practice may be accessed from their publications page.
University of Virginia Electronic Text Center
UVa’s E-Text Center has excellent Helpsheets on XML, HTML, and scanning. They also have helpful information on Standards for SGML, XML, the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), Encoded Archival Description (EAD), and archival imaging.

An information science online journal based in the UK, Ariadne has many articles covering digitization and digital library issues. Published quarterly.
CLIR Publications & Reports
The US-based Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) has a number of publications dealing with digitization available on this site. You may choose to download the report for free in HTML or PDF format, or purchase a print copy.
Digital Library Federation Newsletter
Reports on the activities of members of the DLF. Published quarterly.
D-Lib Magazine and Forum
An online journal devoted to digital library topics, D-Lib is published monthly by the US-based Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI).
RLG Diginews
A bimonthly web-based newsletter, this publication of the Research Libraries Group focuses on digital issues and current awareness.

Association for Computers and the Humanities
A professional society of interest to those who are involved in the digitization projects in humanities disciplines.
American Society for Information Science and Technology
ASIS&T has several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that may be of interest to those working in digitization: Digital Libraries, Arts & Humanities, and Information Architecture. All of these groups have e-mail discussion groups that may be a helpful resource.
Digital Library Federation
The DLF is a consortium of pioneering digital libraries administered by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR).
